This weekend, Paradisus Dei, the Catholic lay ministry who brought us the That Man is You! program, will announce its annual recipient of the St. Joseph Award, given to its Man of the Year. This year’s recipient is Mercy’s own, Mark Hermann.
Since the inception of That Man is You!, tens of thousands of men have answered God’s call to be better husbands and better fathers, by becoming better men. Of all the men who are currently active participants in the program worldwide, or who have participated in years past, Mark was chosen as the person who best exemplifies the ideals of That Man is You!
Mark was nominated for the award by Deacon Richard Grant, the program coordinator here at Our Lady of Mercy. In his nomination, Deacon Grant wrote, “Mark embodies all of the covenants of TMIY! and practices them daily. He is a great husband, a great father … all because he is a great man himself … a man after God’s own heart. Mark personifies the true spirit of That Man is You!”
Since its inception at OLOM in 2006, Mark has been an integral part of the Core Team, helping the men of the program grow in their faith and serving as a role model for others to follow. He is also a member of the Regional and National Leadership Teams. He not only promotes the program, but mentors new parishes as they begin.
Besides his active participation in That Man is You!, Mark and his wife Leigh are also active as coordinators of Engaged Encounter for the Diocese of Baton Rouge. The Hermanns are a part of “Domestic Church” – a lay movement for married, Catholic couples that provides lifelong formation for growing in holiness together and incorporating the true Sacrament in the family. Mark is a Sunday morning Sacristan at our church and he does several events with our parish youth. He is also a youth baseball coach and a huge LSU fan!
Mark and Leigh have two young children, Christopher and Claire, who are very active in their faith as well.
On behalf of our parish, congratulations to Mark Hermann, Paradisus Dei’s recipient of the Man of the Year Award!
