BY YOUTH DIRECTOR, TORI LABELLE
I have never done anything as hard, or as rewarding in my whole life. The high school mission trip to Lake Charles was an incredible experience that I’m sure these students will not soon forget. Through the week, we packaged almost 400 meals at Catholic Charities. We did extensive demolition in homes that were plagued by mold. The people of Lake Charles were what made everything so meaningful. We truly saw the face of Christ in those we served. As we worked through the week, we reflected on Mother Teresa’s 5 finger Gospel – “You did it for me.” Referencing the famous passage from the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 25, we were able to serve the community of Lake Charles, and share the love of Christ. I am forever grateful for the incredible support of our pastor, staff, and most of all, our faithful parishioners. Thank you for making this mission trip possible, and helping win souls for the Lord!
Here are a few quotes from the teens’ perspectives:
“Never in a million years did I expect to have as much fun, love, joy, and friendship as I did this week. I expected a holy and fun experience, sure. But this week gave me a family and changed my life. My life was missing something that I didn’t know I truly needed. I think I am found, if I’m not, now believe I can find myself. I enjoyed most the small group time and Adoration. The girls in my small group will probably become my lifelong friends. Adoration was miraculous! Everyone in tears from the joy and angels in that beautiful church.”
“This has been one of the best and most fruitful weeks of my life. I have been surrounded by so many people that live their lives the way I strive to live mine. Through their faith, humility, grace, love, kindness, work ethic, and friendship.”
“I experienced friendship in a way I didn’t expect and became inspired by the charity of others. This mission trip has nurtured in me a desire to serve others.”
