Mercy Alive

Chance of rain?  NEVER!!! The threat of rain only added to our excitement and it certainly fit our theme “Louisiana Saturday Night” but did not keep Mercy’s greatest fans from supporting the community they love and raising vital funds for our kids.

The 46th Annual Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School Auction & Gala was again held at the world-class East Baton Rouge Goodwood Main Library. This is the second year Mercy partnered with our friends at the Main Library and the wonderful Director,
Ms. Mary Stein. We are humbled by their generosity and are blessed by their hospitality.

The evening began at 6:00 pm with a patron party reception leading up to the festive opening of the main event at 7:00 pm with the special voices of the Our Lady of Mercy Church Chancel Choir, directed and accompanied by Ms. Mary Kannenberg and Mr. Louis Wendt. The evening provided an opportunity for our church and school community to come together and celebrate all that is good at Our Lady of Mercy. Guests enjoyed visiting with old friends and making new ones as they were delighted by the class projects, trips, and items donated by friends and family.

The high-energy dance band, “MVP,” from Atlanta took a break from their set as Father Cleo offered the invocation and welcomed guests. Father Cleo gave exciting updates about our Traditions For Tomorrow Capital Campaign which will lead off with the construction of a new Early Childhood Center expansion to our Lower School Campus. On behalf of our whole family of faith he lead grateful ovations for the leadership of Mr. Chris Porche, Principal, and Mr. Randy Arabie, Administration Director.

Father Cleo then recognized the dedication, hard work and year-long commitments of the Auction chairs: Ms. Remi Jenkins and Ms. Katie Shoriak with the support of their husbands Mr. Jeff Jenkins and Mr. Matt Shoriak. These couples joined Father in praise of their 2017 Committee: Ms. Jacqueline Bello, Mr. Derek Fitch, Mr. Shane Griffin, Ms. Shannon Mahon, Ms. Sharon Poche, Ms. Kathryn Sanches, Ms. Ali Simms, Ms. Andree Talbert, Ms. Elizabeth Weiler, and Ms. Megan Boucvalt.

The mic was then handed to our great friend and Celebrity Emcee & Auctioneer, Mr. Pat Shingleton. It wasn’t long before Pat had the live auction paddles flying for 13 amazing lots ranging from tickets to see Hamilton on Broadway and Bruno Mars at Madison Square Garden, to a Custom Ice Cream Truck Playhouse, and to a student’s opportunity to be Principal For The Day! Equally exciting was the participation of so many faculty members and their guests thanks to Church and parent sponsorships. It was so good to enjoy friendship with the women and men who partner with us in the formation of our little ones.

The Auction is the single annual fundraiser exclusively for our children at Our Lady of Mercy School. The most important ministry of our parish outside of the celebration of the Sacraments is the formation of our students and their families at our Catholic school. For us the ringing of the school bell is as sacred as the toll of the bell tower. Thanks to our benefactors 100% of the proceeds of ticket sales will benefit our school. We are so grateful to everyone who was able to participate in any way. Your support, even a single ticket purchase will make a difference in our children’s experience at Mercy. We look forward the next great Mercy celebration! Like Father Cleo says: “There’s no party like a Mercy Party!”

Our Lady of Mercy, pray for us!
