Messiah is an oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel. Handel uses a Scriptural text to tell the events of the life of Jesus in three parts: Prophesy and Birth; Passion and Resurrection; and the Promise of Eternal Life. Since its premier, the oratorio has risen in popularity, becoming one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music. It begins with prophetic promises of the birth of the Christ, many from the Old Testament book of Isaiah. Qe actual birth of Jesus is revealed, and then Messiah narrates the experience of the shepherds outside of Bethlehem, completing the birth story.

The Our Lady of Mercy Chancel Choir and Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Ms. Mary Kannenberg, will present the “Christmas Portion” of Messiah this Advent Season. The performance will take place at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and will feature four local solo artists:

Mr. Michael Hendrick, Tenor
Mr. Sean Matassa, Bass

Admission is free and all generous donations will benefit the Our Lady of Mercy Music Ministry.
