Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, Christian-based housing ministry that works in partnership with deserving, low-income families and the community to eliminate poverty housing through building simple, decent homes. They help build community by involving diverse religions, social and business groups in the construction of homes and neighborhoods.
The Catholic Coalition Build, in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity has kicked off its 25th year with a recent Blessing of the Build and has started construction on a home located at 3333 Convention Street in Baton Rouge. The Catholic Coalition Build is sponsored by eight local Catholic Churches including Our Lady of Mercy.
We want you to help us make this Convention Street house become a home for Ms. Karen Williams and her two children. On Mercy’s build day, which is SATURDAY, MAY 20 from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm, we’ll install siding, trim, caulk, install cabinets, and paint the interior of the house (volunteers must be 16 years of age and older). We are also in need of volunteers to prepare and drop off lunch and drinks for 25 happy helpers. Ms. Williams told the Catholic Build Coalition, “I’ve been looking forward to owning my own home for almost two years and it’s finally here! I can’t wait to have the peace of mind of owning my own home. It’s such a blessing.”
Come out and build alongside Ms. Williams and her family for the Catholic Build Day. Enjoy the Spring weather and strengthen bonds with your church family. Everyone will benefit from this great cause!
