The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord’s own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist.
CCC 1322
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is foundational for our Catholic Faith. Through this sacrament, we not only receive the gift of sacramental grace, but we also have the unprecedented blessing of physically receiving Christ.
Requirements: In order for a child to receive First Holy Communion at Our Lady of Mercy Church, first and foremost, the child must be a baptized parishioner. Before a child can receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, the child must have first received the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Please see below for details). As a parishioner, the child must be preparing for this Sacrament through our Parish School of Religion, or through Our Lady of Mercy School.
In addition to the child’s sacramental catechism classes, we have a Mandatory Parent’s Meeting (for parents only) to ensure that each child is also receiving the proper preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion at home, as well as a Mandatory Retreat for the children before they receive their First Holy Communion.
